Department of Korean Language and Literature

The Department of Korean Language and Literature provides a comprehensive curriculum that immerses students within a national context and broadens their views to the world. It is divided into Korean Linguistics: phonology, grammar, semantics; Classical Korean Literature: classical poetry, the classical novel, classical literary criticism; and Modern Korean Literature: contemporary poetry, novel, and drama. Studying in these areas offers students an opportunity not only to go to graduate school but also to work in various related fields including Korean teacher, poet, novelist, fictionist, critics, copywriter, scriptwriter, journalist, publisher after graduation.

Department of English Language and Literature

Established in Oct. 1951, the Department of English Language and Literature offers a comprehensive curriculum that not only elevates students’ language expertise but also broaden their global outlook. The curriculum is sub-divided into the fields of English linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, grammar, historical linguistics and language education; and of English literature including poetry, novels, drama, and literary criticism. From this academic foundation, graduates from our department are able to pursue careers, such as teaching, media, publishing, technical writing, working in international business and trade, or to continue within the academic process itself at graduate school to elevate an academic level.

Department of History

The curriculum of the Department of History is divided into three disciplinary specialties; Korean history, East Asian history and Western history. Within these specialties, students are able to attain a balanced historical view as well as a future-oriented outlook compatible to the global paradigm. From this plateau, our graduates go to graduate school or succeed in education, journalism, humanities research institutes, and business corporations.

Department of Philosophy

Philosophy is a discipline that studies the nature of fundamental problems concerning existence, knowledge, wisdom, and ethics. The Department of Philosophy offers a comprehensive curriculum in the fields of epistemology, metaphysics, logic and ethics. The program cultivates talented individuals with integrated knowledge concerning humanity and academic disciplines as well as the ability of logical and critical thinking. Moreover, graduates from the department are able to pursue careers in the fields of education, media, business corporations, and administration; or alternatively continue to study at graduate school.

Department of French Language and Literature

The Department of French Language and Literature aims to foster creative minds, convergent thinking and a global outlook through studying French language, literature and culture. The curriculum is sub-divided into general and major courses. The general courses introduce an overall outline of French language, literature and culture, and major courses include in-depth studies that cultivate France-specialists. Graduates from our department are trained in integrated thinking skills and glocal competency in pursuing careers in France-related employment fields, or in seeking academic achievement at graduate school.

Department of German Language and Literature

Established in 1978, the Department of German Language and Literature aims to cultivate talented individuals in creative and independent thinking through achieving an excellent command of German language which includes being able to understand German literature, culture, and German society in its entirety. The curriculum offers courses in grammar, conversation, comprehensive reading, German literature, and German regional studies. Graduates from our department are able to attain creative and adaptive problem-solving skills in pursuing careers, such as in the fields of education, government service, media, publication, business corporation, or to continue to study in depth at our graduate school.

Department of Chinese Language and Literature

Established in 1979, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature teaches an abundance of Chinese culture and tradition through its curriculum. It cultivates competent Chinese experts ready for 21th century China’s rapid-economic growth. Its curriculum is sub-divided into three fields: Chinese literature, Chinese linguistics, and contemporary Chinese culture. With the expertise, the graduates from the department get jobs in various fields, or pursue further academic achievement at our graduate school.

Department of Archaeology & Anthropology

The department of Archaeology & Anthropology consists of two disciplines, which seem rather disparate but in fact quite complementary. The combination cultivates academic talents that are compatible to the 21th century globalized age through teaching fundamental research methodologies of archaeology, anthropology and cross-cultural studies, as well as enhancing students’ integrated knowledge. From this academic foundation, graduates secure job opportunities such as in museums, research institute of cultural heritage, cultural exhibition center, related international organization, education, business corporation, etc., or continue with their academic career either at graduate school or overseas.

Department of Japanese Language and Literature

The department of Japanese Language and Literature aims at elevating language proficiency, expanding on international exchanges, and creating a global curriculum and evaluation system. Thanks to the utmost educational endeavor, the department cultivates outstanding individuals in the fields of both employment and academia. The graduates from our department successfully land jobs home and abroad; or, alternatively, pursue further academic goals at graduate school.

Department of Korean Literature in Classical Chinese

Established in 1988, the department of Korean Literature in Classical Chinese especially aims at fostering outstanding specialists in translation of Korean literature in classical Chinese, research, and the almost 2,000 thousand-year of archive materials: classical poetry, writings, novels, scriptures written in Chinese characters. The curriculum offers courses in Chinese character reading comprehension and in interpreting Korean literature in classical Chinese through studying various literary works in both classical Chinese and literary criticism.

Department of Russian Language and Literature

Established in 1989, the Department of Russian Language and Literature aims to cultivate talented individuals in Russian linguistics and literature. The curriculum has a diverse spectrum, ranging from Russian linguistics and literature, Russian culture and regional studies to translation studies. This educational approach successfully contributes to cultivating Russian-experts in both employment and academia contributing to mutual exchange between Korea and Russia. Moreover, graduates from our department get jobs or advance to study further at graduate school.

Interdisciplinary Major of Humanities and Counseling

The Interdisciplinary Major of Humanities and Counseling offers students the opportunity to research and interact between both the Humanities and Counseling fields building upon the foundation of various disciplines, such as linguistics, literature, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, and nursing science. Furthermore, it creates talented individuals who contribute to the fields of counseling, negotiation, and psychotherapy. It also meets both personal and social demands of this competitive era in order to seek the solution for social conflict and dehumanization of personal interaction.

Interdisciplinary Major of Chinese Culture and Commerce

The Interdisciplinary Major of Chinese Culture and Commerce nurtures creative individuals through the convergence of education in Chinese society, culture, economics, commerce in its entirety; in order to meet the demands of Northeast Asian Cooperation Initiative. Its curriculum is sub-divided into basic major courses in contemporary Chinese society and economics, Chinese culture and commerce, Korean-Chinese culture contents; and intensive major courses in principles of international trade, economics, Chinese cultural studies, subjects related to Chinese language and literature, Chinese scriptures and philosophy.

Interdisciplinary Major of Cultural Contents Development

In the 21th century social milieu, cultural contents industry is core driving force behind socio-economic development. This major cultivates experts in cultural contents development through the educational system of CT (Culture Technology and Contents Technology) and IT (Information Technology) convergence education. With this purpose, its curriculum offers diverse related courses, such as culture in the global age, software and problem solving, cultural contents production plan, history and fiction, polemology and humanities, Korean culture and thoughts, European cultural contents, cultural strategy and regional development, software convergence project, design and culture, and so on.
